My name is Thanos, I’m a landscape astrophotographer based in Athens, Greece. As a high school student, I remember myself being charmed about physics, astrophysics and astronomy. These feelings about this spectrum of science never changed, and even as a mechanical engineering student, I continued reading books and attending the majority of the events, with an astronomical theme, organized in Patras.
In 2016 (during my studies), it was that time when I realized that a cellphone or a compact camera would not make any difference in my images and I decided to get a DSLR camera, the first one, my old D3300. Being already familiar with the technical terms and how to use the camera, I started immediately experimenting with different types of photography (landscapes, portraits etc.).
After a couple of years of wandering around photography types, and being motivated by my love for astrophysics, I tried to capture the Milky Way; and I made it. I know, it is obvious that's not the biggest achievement, but at this point, it was a great achievement for me, that I was able to capture some of the celestial that I'm reading about. This was a game-changing night.
My crop sensor camera was serving me well, until the point I asked for better image quality (already had and been using a star tracker). I had to take the next step, and that was a full-frame camera, so I went for a D750, paired with a 20mm f1.8; one of the most pleasing combinations for wide-field astrophotography. As seen, astrophotography became my passion right away and continues to be so. During the last couple of years, I have found myself seeking adventures and new locations. I am passionate about hiking and enjoy spending time with friends and other photographers outdoors. I also love planning excursions, where new photography goals are always set.
